Some of the Program Content:
• Today is Labor Day, a day which most Americans celebrate,
but few in American even know why we have the celebration. On
today’s program we will look at how we came to have a Labor
Day and what we should really be celebrating. And what about
this ideal of “American virtue”. How does this ideal of virtue
fit into our nation’s labor story?
• Did you know that our United States was actually bombed in
WWll? That’s right; a Japanese plane did bomb our U.S. only
a few days before Labor Day, 1942. It’s a fascinating story
worth hearing as told by those who were actually there.
• Giving nicknames is a pretty common practice in our America.
But do we all like the nicknames we are given? You will hear
the story of President Andrew Jackson and how he came to be
nicknamed “Old Hickory” and if he even liked that name he was
given.
• Part of our great success as a Labor nation is all of the
inventions we have to our credit. I will tell some strange inventions,
some even by accident, and one man, Sylvester, who almost lost
his life because of his invention.
• Abigail Adams, wife of our second president, was a woman of
great virtue. Once she was asked if the difficulties of life
bring positive results, if great necessities bring great virtue.
Her answer should be sounding forth like a loud speaker for
all to hear in our America today.
My desired goal for this Labor Day program?
To remind us all that there is much more to our nation’s success
than just our labor and economic growth – there is this powerful
foundation force known as “virtue” which we must all be seeking
after to save our America.
